does anyone of you live in a country with special days throughout the year?
in exactly.... 20 minutes we have commemoration of the dead... or just Memorial Day. on the 4th of may, every year ever since 1946 I believe, at 8 o'clock, we remember those who lost their lives in world war 2. the last few years it has become a more international thing, since we now also remember our soldiers who died in Afghanistan and in all other wars the Dutch fought in.
and on the 5th of may we celebrate Liberation Day (not that we really party or anything like it), when we think about the freedom that was given to us by the soldiers who liberated the Netherlands after World War Two, and we think about all freedom and democracy all over the world. we pray for those who are still oppressed.
so now it's... 13 minutes, and then we will have those tiny two minutes of a whole year to remember war- and senseless violence victims.
and tomorrow it's hurray, we're free!
